Students Install and Monitor Bird Boxes
Rob Mardiney and Brittney Mulka from Irvine Nature Center lead a professional development exercise for the teachers of Sinclair Lane Elementary. Part of the development content was an introduction to bird boxes and monitoring. Irvine provided multiple bird boxes for the outdoor nature classroom and taught the teachers how to teach their students to monitor and install bird boxes. Due to weather related rescheduling the Bird Boxes will be installed on March 20, 2018, pictures will follow.
Students Build and Monitor an Insect Hotel
Sinclair Lane's outdoor nature classroom got a new addition at the hands of the Green Club. Each member participated in building an insect hotel from scratch. The students will have an opportunity to make observations and record urban insect species diversity and density. The insects will use the hotel as a habitat to reproduce and thrive throughout the year. The insect hotel was installed on March 13, 2018.
