We are Sinclair Lane Elementary School. A K-5 school located in the Northeast section of Baltimore City. Our school is a title one school, with 389 students enrolled. We have 12 full time teaching staff, as well as 20 other school staff members. We have been moving towards changing our school and local community to a more green centered and environmentally friendly culture. Over the past two years we have been implementing a variety of changes in and around our school to help improve our footprint. We have begun a paper recycling program lead by green team members, we are actively working on ways to reduce and reuse our energy consumption by installing more energy efficient lighting and heating units, as well as reminders to turn off the lights in every classroom. Students on the green team meet bi-weekly to learn and discuss a variety of eco-friendly topics and explorations. They are then given opportunities to share out with their fellow classmates the information gained from their club meetings. Overall the atmosphere has shifted to incorporating a much more green outlook about our school and the local community. We have worked to involve our community partners, as well as Irvine Nature Center and Blue Water Baltimore in ways to better assist students and staff members in adopting a more positive environmental attitude in and out of the classrooms.
